Registering Your Dog

Not only is registering your dog required by law in the state of Michigan, it also adds another opportunity to return your dog if they are lost. It is also an effective way to prevent or control the spread of rabies because an up-to-date rabies vaccination is required for registration. Tags are provided by the department where your pet is registered. Most residents of Washtenaw county should register through the county, but residents of Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti Township will follow their local municipalities guidelines. We've provided a link for each below. If you live outside of these areas, search "dog registration {your area}" to find information on registering your dog.

Trusted Informational Websites

The internet is a big place and there are numerous websites to get good, reliable information and tips to help give your pet a happy and healthy life. Unfortunately, there are also many sites offering false or out-dated information. To help cut through these bits of misinformation and old wives' tales, we offer you a list of our trusted websites.

We believe they offer the most comprehensive, well researched, and current information. This is not an exhaustive list and it does not replace consulting with a veterinarian if your pet is sick or injured. Links for emergency hospitals can always be found at the bottom of every page on our website.

Find a pet-sitter in your area. It's like AirBNB, but for pets and people come to your house instead. (So it's not like AirBNB at all, really....)

Blogs and other fun

The internet isn't all seriousness and academic papers. The following links offer funny or interesting stories about pets and their owners. They also offer compelling and new research-based theories on animal care and training. Just like with any study or research, new evidence can point to a different or better understanding of animal nutrition, behavior, or animal care. With that, for once in your life, would you please click on a picture below and use the internet for a little fun?

Companion Animal Psychology
Written by Dr. Zazie Todd, who has a PhD in Psychology, focuses on behavior, training, and enrichment for both cats and dogs. The blog approaches all the topics Dr. Todd writes about with a scientific mind and is often backed by research (usually cited at the end of each blog post). For those of you with keen observational skills, it also includes a book club focusing on mostly books about the kind and humane treatment of companion animals. The blog also has a very convenient starting point for new readers, which you can find here: http://www.companionanimalpsychology.com/p/new-reader-start-here.html
